Abstract
This research examines the dynamics of religious identity politics in Indonesia in a contemporary context by considering the perspective of Islamic law. Through analyzing the Ahok controversy case as a case study, this research highlights the complexity and challenges associated with religious identity politics in Indonesia. The results of the analysis show that religious identity politics can be a tool to gain political advantage and mobilize the masses, with the perspective of Islamic Law providing a moral foundation for individuals and groups in expressing their religious identity. However, there are also diverse interpretations of Islamic principles that can influence political attitudes towards non-Muslims and trigger polarization in society. Therefore, handling the issue of religious identity politics requires a wise approach, prioritizing interfaith dialogue, and ensuring that the values of democracy, pluralism and human rights are upheld. With a commitment to these principles, it is hoped that Indonesia can create an inclusive social and political environment, which upholds human values and justice for all its citizens.
